Avon River Metalworks Story
From humble beginnings in his Falmouth, Nova Scotia workshop, metal artist Al Simm has become a sought-after creator of both decorative and functional designs. His work includes custom handcrafted pieces, striking architectural elements, and landmark commercial installations. Inspired by the landscapes and wildlife of the Annapolis Valley, his creations can be found across the region as well as in memorials at the Halifax waterfront and in Passchendaele, Belgium.

The Canada Gate
From Nova Scotia to Belgium, the Canada Gate reflects a journey of dedication, artistry, and remembrance. The gate was crafted at the Avon River Metalworks studio in Falmouth then transported and assembled by Al Simm at the site of the battle in Belgium. This monumental memorial commemorates the courage of Canadian soldiers at Passchendaele and serves as a testament to the impact one craftsperson can make.
